New WIC Office to Open in Widefield

Effective Feb. 1, El Paso County Public Health is moving its WIC office in southern El Paso County to 97 Widefield Blvd. in Widefield. The current WIC office at 301 Iowa Ave. in Fountain will close Jan. 20. WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children, and the program provides nutrition and health education, healthy food and other services to those who qualify. An open house is planned 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 31 at the new office in Widefield

Hawk Identification Field Trip

The Fountain Creek Nature Center will be holding a Hawk Identification Field Trip on
Saturday, January 22 form 8:30 am to Noon.  Have you ever wondered what that large bird was soaring high above or perched on a utility pole? Maybe an eagle or a hawk or a falcon, but how can you tell? Join a naturalist – birder on a field trip through El Paso County to see and identify winter resident raptors. Bring binoculars if you have them. ($5.00/member, $6.00/nonmember, RR)

Cowboy Christmas in Fountain

Fountain will be holding its Annual Cowboy Christmas on Saturday, December 11th from 10 am to 4 pm in front of City Hall located at 116 S. Main Street in Fountain, CO.  The annual event is sponsored by the Fountain Downtown Events Association.

The outdoor event will feature school choirs, hay rides and crafts.  Bring the kids to meet Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and enjoy the holiday fun.

Pearl Harbor Remebrance Day

On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked during World War II. In remembrance of the many American Military men and women who lost their lives, flags have been lowered to half staff in Colorado today. Governor Bill Ritter said. “I hope that all Coloradans will join me in honoring Pearl Harbor Day and pausing to remember the courageous individuals who deafened us on that day.”

5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration in Widefield

Widefield will be holding its 5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 7, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  Festivities will take place on the front lawn on the eastside of the community center located at 705 Aspen Dr in Widefield.  There will be crafts for the kids, Santa Claus, hayrides, holiday shopping, caroling, food vendors, & cookie with a hot drink.  Everyone is invited so stop on by.  For more information call 719-391-3515.

Donate non-perishable food items at the Widefield Community Center Nov. 1 – Dec. 7. The food will be distributed to families in need throughout School District #3.

Turn Your Clocks Back One Hour on Sunday

Remember to turn your clocks back one hour as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end on November 7th, 2010. In the United States clocks fall back from 2:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday or change your clocks before you go to bed on Saturday night.  Your computers and cell phones should change back automatically with their built in technology software.

Veterans Parade Downtown Colorado Springs

Honor our military veterans on Saturday November 6th during the annual Veteran’s Day Parade.  The parade starts at 10:00 am and will start at Tejon St and St. Vrain.  The parade will continue down Tejon street with military bands, floats, veterans groups and more.

Going Batty: Pajamas in the Park

Spend the night at Fountain Creek Nature Center from Friday, October 29, 5:30 p.m. thru Saturday, October 30, 9:00 a.m.  Children in 1st-5th grades are invited to join us for a nighttime adventure as we enjoy cooking hotdogs over a fire, crafts, games, a night hike, asleep over, breakfast, and a morning hike.
